Autumn Planning

My mind is drifting toward fall where there is cooler weather and the chance to grow more seeds. I was wondering where do you people like to buy seeds and what do you like to grow during the fall months?

My List So far

1. Lettuce
2. Walla Walla Onions
3. Garlic
4. Possibly some herbs in pots as the heat nearly killed all but the basil and the sage.

I buy all of my seeds from Peaceful Valley Farm Supply or OSH. Between the two I have an excellent selection to choose from.

I’m going to plant: garlic, leeks, swiss chard, mache, lettuces, root vegetables, and start some more herbs. Like all the basil seeds I have!

Spinach, leeks, swiss chard, basil, kale, beets, peas, carrots, bok choy, cauliflower, broccoli, salad bowl lettuce, butter lettuce, endive. I live in the south so I can also do 80 day watermelons because we normally don’t even have a threat of winter freeze until Christmas. I’m going to start taking full advantage of our long growing season. I had fresh tomatoes on the vine From March to December!

I buy about 85% my seeds at rareseeds. com and seedsavers. org. I get the rest through seed shares. Even when I buy from rareseeds and seedsavers, I send my pack remainders to good friends and avid gardeners so they get actually used.

    Good Luck!

I am not a big seed buyer, so I just find mine locally at Lowes usually. I am hoping to plant tomatoes, broccoli, green beans, and maybe some leaf lettuces again this year…Oct. 15th or so!

Gosh, I have a few packs of lettuce seeds from Seed Savers but I’m afraid I’ll just kill them with neglect…

I think we are going to try garlic & green of some sort. Our fall is weird though… it might not really start until nov. Freakin’ Texas.

I like Pinetree Garden Seeds ( a lot. I’ve got some brassicas (not enough, though) and beets and turnips started already, and I’m planning lettuce, spinach, carrots, cilantro, dill, and garlic for later on. (Cilantro that won’t bolt before it gets six inches high…that would be lovely.)

Wow, your photo is amazing! It’s so hard for me to think of Autumn already. I’m resisting with all of my might. It gets so cold here in the fall.
