Summer Bloom Day

DSC_0009
What a difference a couple of weeks make. The rain and clouds are gone and the temperatures are slowly creeping up to the mid-90’s. The garden is showing off the last of the spring flowers and the new summer plants are really taking off. My new favorites are my poppies. Last winter, I had bought multiple seeds packets of poppies. I sprinkled them around the yard and waited but nothing ever appeared. I was pleasantly surprised when this poppy plant appeared in November. Since I sprinkled so many different varieties I wasn’t sure which is was. So once again, I had to play the waiting game. Finally, they bloomed and these gorgeous, prolific red poppies appeared.

I also bought a unique poppy from Annie’s Annuals this past winter. Meet the “Black Swan”, Papaver hybridum poppy. I’m making a mental note to myself to buy lots of special poppies from them next year.

Another surprise in the garden are all of my volunteer violas. The standard Johnny Jump Up made an appearance throughout the yard but so did violas in shades of yellow, orange, and white.

My other new favorite is a Annie’s Annuals purchase. It’s Clarkia Amonena “Aurora”. It gives you dozens of delicate chiffon like flowers in shades of pink and white. I wish I had bought five of these. They also managed to survive some ugly wind and rain from a weeks ago as well.

Absolutely gorgeous! I need more flowers in my garden. “Black Swan” is so dramatic! I love it. Will definitely have a poppy garden next year.

Dang, you have some great looking blooms right now. We think we are going to try that “Black Swan” next year if Annies is carrying it. Geez, I keep scrolling up and down and keep seeing more stuff that I want to try (okay…Megan to try)…and some of the same success we had too. Love your blog..Matti

You really have some beautiful blooms in this posting. I have done the same thing with poppy seeds. Trying anything to get even one to grow. I may have two that are growing now. Your red one is so pretty. The English daises are so pretty. I am going to have to try them sometime. The Dahlia is growing and I cannot wait to see it bloom. The heart birdseed holder was so cute but it is gone now. LOL! The birds loved it too. Have a wonderful week!

Yay! I’m so glad the dahlia is doing well for you. Mine hasn’t bloomed yet either but I’m anxious to see it. Have a great day.
