Rainy Bloom Day

DSC_0036

It’s bloom day again, and I finally have some flowers to post. It’s been a long winter for us Northern Californians. I will admit that we are total winter wimps, but even we have been wondering if spring was going to show up after a record amount of hard frosts and rainfall.

The violas and pansies that I grew in past years have re-seeded and now I have a variety of colors popping up. The “Mickey Mouse” viola I grew last year has reappeared but reverted to its parent genetics. Now, I have a nice mix of Johnny Jump Ups and violet violas.

The freesias have made an appearance as well. I really should plant these everywhere as they smell so good and don’t require a lot of extra attention like the tulips and daffodils.

I’m very excited to see that the fruit trees and shrubs are starting to wake up. The new strawberry plants are taking off nicely. The thornless blackberry plant and the pomegranate tree are looking less like sticks. The lemon tree and lime tree are producing a nice amount of flowers, unlike last year. I might even get a decent harvest of peas if I can stop myself from eating them straight off the vine.

The front yard is doing well too. The Muscari I had started in a pot a couple of years ago are spreading nicely along the driveway. Tulips and Daffodils are also starting to appear in the front yard. Roses are starting to get started as well.

Kristi, thanks so much for checking out my blog 🙂 Wonderful to meet you! I love your tagline, it cracked me up. And if you take these photos I’m in awe – need to seriously work on my macro skillz!
