Indoor Garden The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted about the indoor garden.
The Good

The good news is that some of the plants are flourishing.
Here is German Chamomile, despite the fact that’s indoors it’s got three buds on it.

Chaomile

Robert Johnson Hybrid Tobacco plant- I have three of these growing and they have nice big, soft leaves in the spring they will sprout flowers. I received these seeds for free and had to plant them because they are names after the blues legend Robert Johnson.

Tobacco

Oregano- this plant should really be grown in the spring. But surprisingly he’s doing well in the winter.

The Bad

Spinach hates me. Now even the Catalina spinach has bolted. I thought this one was doing well and then today it had this huge flower. I’m sure why they are bolting since it’s been chilly for our area.

The Ugly

I’m not even going to show you photos it’s that ugly. My indoor garden has been infested by gnats. Which you expect a certain amount of in any garden. However, they have laid eggs in the seedlings. Little white worms have infested the plants and has killed a number of the seedlings. The larvae feast on the roots of seedlings and all but kills the plants. My plan of attack so far is to use various sticky traps for the adults, drying out the dirt between watering (which is difficult with seedlings), and using safer soap with garlic. But I’m still finding larvae. I will have to look into other methods.

AHHHHHHHHHHHH! Thank you so much for omitting the “ugly” pics. You convinced me at “little white worms” that it was a wise decision. Oh…..i think that is the one thing I have a had time dealing with with planting. The worms and little creatures you discover…ack! not a fan. Your good ones look lovely though….The oregano looks divine already!

Ick, I have to agree with Sandy… thanks for sparing us from the “ugly” photos! Hope you are able to find a way to deal with that problem, I think you just convinced me to never have an indoor garden. 🙂
