San Francisco Marina Distric Fort Mason

For Mason

Last weekend, I went to San Francisco to visit the Fine Art Fair at Fort Mason. I thought it was a perfect opportunity to try out my new camera a Nikon D3000.

Fort Mason is a former military port that was in service for over 100 years. It’s now a mix of parks, gardens, and business rental space. It’s situated right by the water and has amazing views of Alcatraz and the city. Even though I grew up in San Jose which is only a short distance from San Francisco, my experiences in the city have been mainly in the more touristy spots. This area is a lot calmer and relaxing then the other areas I have visited.

I started the day by eating lunch at the Greens a vegetarian restaurant located right by the docks. I had a Poblano pepper and onion quesadilla with this really flavorful salad consisting of quinoa, pumpkin seeds, jimica and black beans. I might try to replicate this salad as it would perfect in the summer time.

From there I went to the San Francisco Fine Art Fair where I spent over two hours looking over the works of more than 500 artists from past and present. I’ll post some of my favorites in my next post.

Afterward, I took advantage of the great weather by walking around and shooting pictures of the bay and the surrounding park.

The day ended at the wine bar Bin 38. After trying to find parking for 20 minutes this place was a little oasis of good wine and excellent cheese. I had asked to sit outside thinking I would just be sitting on the street but I was pleasantly surprised when the hostess escorted me through the long narrow restaurant to a beautiful patio area. I had a nice glass of a Priorat from Spain called GR-174 with their cheese plate. The cheese was really good even though I wish the pieces were a little larger. I don’t know why but my prior efforts to create an appetizing cheese plate are never as good as when I go out. I’m going to make it my personal goal this summer to create the ultimate cheese plate. Not to mention finding nice wines to pair it with.

Overall it was a great day with perfect weather, good food, and amazing art. I need to re-explore San Francisco and find more places like this.

Cheese plates elude me too! I am always trying different ones, and I have decided that THIS is my year to make it happen!

I look forward to seeing your “perfect” cheese plate!
